Episode 11 (May 2010) – Mental Health and the Law

Welcome to LegalEase – a Montreal-based and produced radio show on 90.3 FM CKUT broadcasting the law cast broadly. This week our show is entitled, “Mental health and the Law.” It is available online here.

The first portion of our show hops on a bus tour for Mental Health week. Lainie takes us aboard at St. Catherine and Beaudry. We subsequently drive around the city with Bernard Vallee of L’Autre Montreal leading the tour. This tour allows our listeners to understand the city of Montreal from another perspective. We visit a psychiatric asylum from the 19th Century, the Verdun Protestant Asylum for the Insane and other notable sites from the city.

In our second portion, Melanie interviews long-time McGill Psychiatry and the Law prof. Ronald Sklar. He discusses his impressions upon retirement as well as some issues he encountered as a Clinical Ethicist at the Douglas Hospital.
